Samsung Galaxy S III

Samsung Galaxy S IIIThe Samsung Galaxy S III  is a very competitively-priced  smartphone that comes with a lot of unique features which many customers will like. Some of these great features include its sleek design and top-level performance, all for a very reasonable price. This is the third revision of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy phone, and they keep getting better every time. The Samsung Galaxy S III is also available with a wide variety of carriers making its distribution strategy far more aggressive than many of its competitors. The Samsung Galaxy III is definitely worth checking out if you are eligible for a phone upgrade with your current contract (since it is available with many different carriers), or if this is your first venture into the land of smartphones.

Advantages

The Samsung Galaxy S III comes with a quad-core processor which allows for speed and seamless streaming. It also is a very light, durable, plastic phone that can handle the abuse that many people put their phones through. It also has a very good 8-megapixel camera that produces strong photos and captures crisp video. The S III’s greatest advantage is its price. If you want value for your dollar, this phone is worth considering.

Disadvantages

There are a few disadvantages when it comes to the handset.  The biggest complaint is that the screen is too dim. It can be difficult to see, especially darker shades, when watching video clips or movies. There is also a glare on the screen due to the plastic and rounding which can become quite a nuisance.  Samsung’s S Voice, their personal assistant, does not compete with the iPhone’s Siri.

Design

The design of the Samsung Galaxy S III is not about the “wow” factor, but rather practicality. It does not have flashy bright colors or a glass body, but it is a very strong plastic phone. Being plastic helps to keep the price of the phone down, so that needs to be taken into consideration. It is also more durable since it is formed out of plastic and that in itself can be a selling feature since phones are dropped so often. The look and feel of this phone is much improved than previous Galaxy handsets for it is more chic and smooth. It is a big device at 5.4 inches tall and 2.8 inches wide, but it is not heavy weighing only 4.7 ounces. The greatest flaw in design is how reflective the surface is which can make visibility and glare an issue.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S III has a terrific 8-megapixel camera with a blacklight sensor and LED flash.  It has virtually zero shutter lag, which can be great when trying to capture precious moments when your subject won’t stay put. Photos come out in rich color with excellent sharpness, yet there were some issues with the white balance in indoor shots and shadows in outdoor shots. Photo quality from the front-facing camera for vanity shots is good, but not nearly as good to as the rear-facing camera. The phone also has software features that are easy to use, including face-tagging, High Definition Recording, and burst mode (which takes several photos in quick succession). The Galaxy S III comes in 16GB and 32GB versions, which can both be expanded with up to an additional 64 GB. Video quality is very good with bright colors and seamless streaming. The video also can be played back in 720p HD quality, which gives it a real leg up on the competition.

Screen

The Samsung Galaxy S III has a large screen at 4.8 inches. It has HD Super AMOLED display that is clear and vivid. The resolution is 1,280 x 720 pixel which is great for video. Unfortunately the screen does have some glare issues and has difficulty producing good dark shades. If you do watch a lot of video on your smartphone, the larger screen can make your viewing much more pleasurable.

Operationg System

This handset uses Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. With their TouchWiz modifications to Android, Samsung has added system control to the notifications pull down. It has a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor which is very fast. The operating system is very responsive and allows the user to feel in control. The phone also has S Beam, which uses allows users to move files. It can also share URLs, maps, and contact information.

Features

Samsung’s Galaxy S III comes with many extra software features. These features include HDR, cartoon mode, and face-tagging when it comes to photo capturing and editing. The phone has integrated the camera and address book to make photo sharing even easier. It comes preloaded with many apps including Play, Allshare, and Air for Wi-Fi. S Voice is Samsung’s personal assistant that can launch apps, navigation, find numbers, and set alarms. One of the greatest features is Samsung’s dropbox which allows for 50GB of free online storage for up to two years. Please keep in mind that many of these apps depend on your carrier, so you should research that before you make your purchase.

Conclusion

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S III is the ideal phone for those switching from a basic cellphone to a smartphone. It is budget-friendly, durable, and has many terrific features that rival its more expensive competitors. Since the Galaxy S III is available with so many different providers, you will find greater coverage. This also allows for you to find the best carrier to meet your needs. It is also great that you can upgrade your storage needs if necessary to either 16GB or 24GB.
