iPhone 5

The iPhone is loved by many, especially those who are already familiar with Apple products. The iPhone 5 has made many improvements to its predecessor, which was already among the most powerful of smartphones.  The iPhone 5 has several models which vary in storage capacity only, up to 64GB. The camera produces crisp and detailed photos, which has replaced many people’s need for a digital camera. The dual-core processor allows for greater speed. The iPhone 5 also comes with a much-improved Siri, who can assist in organization, play and keeping track of schedules. The iPhone 5 is definitely a phone worth checking out.

Advantages

There are many good things to say about the Apple iPhone 5, but many of these features were also available on earlier Apple iPhones. The iPhone 5 has a faster processor which allows the user to use several programs simultaneously without slowing the phone down. There is also an upgraded camera that produces such high-quality pictures that it replaces the need for a digital camera. There is also Siri, the virtual personal assistant available only to iPhone users. She can help you stay organized and on track. The greatest advantage for iPhone users is the various apps to choose from which can make your phone a great asset in business and in personal use.

Disadvantages

Although the iPhone 5 has plenty of great features, it also has a few disadvantages when compared to other smartphones. The iPhone 5 is very expensive, so it may be wise to find out if you are eligible for a rebate or upgrade based on your contract. You must choose your carrier wisely, because speed can become an issue.  Although Apple just added a larger screen, the screen is still smaller than the iPhone’s competitors, and may feel cramped for watching video or browsing the web.

Design

The iPhone 5 still has a solid feel.  Although the glass on the back of the phone has been reduced to two small strips, it may still be damaged if dropped, so ensure that you are holding it carefully.  The new, larger Retina Display is beautiful. The iPhone 5 also has changed their antenna design so that the “death grip” which plagued earlier iPhone users is no longer a concern.

Camera

The iPhone 5 boasts a 8 megapixel camera which offers autofocus, flash and a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor that allows for 73% more light than the previous sensor which delivers better performance in low light. There is also a hybrid IR filter that allows for better color accuracy. This camera is also 33% faster than the iPhone 4S′s camera. The A6 processor has a built-in processor that adds face detection and a better auto white balance. The image quality is great: colors are brighter, and the focus is sharper, resulting in less pixilation. The camera viewfinder also has gridlines that allow for easier photo taking. There is a tap to focus feature, video toggle and shutter control. Photo editing has also greatly improved from Apple’s previous models, which now includes new choices for cropping and rotating shots, a single-tap color corrector, and red-eye reduction. The camera app has also been improved, making it more like a point and shoot camera.  Video quality is excellent. It can even be shot in 1080p HD video clips at 30 frames per second.

Screen

The iPhone 5 has a terrific Retina Display that provides beautiful quality. It is very clear and good from many angles. Yet the screen does not seem to be keeping up with other models in regards to size. The iPhone 5 display is still small, especially when compared to Android models.

The iPhone 5 has two cores in its A6 chip, which means it can deliver up to twice as much power and up to seven times quicker graphics. iOS is very quick and responsive and uses power conservatively, so the iPhone 5 has great battery life, allowing up to 8 hours of talk time. iOS also supports encrypted network communication that can protect your private information. There are also apps that are prompted which request location information and require your permission for access.

The iPhone 5 inherits has all of the standard iPhone features that are found on earlier iPhones including; calendar, various clock features, voice memos, weather and stock apps, text messaging, e-mail, and the Notes app. The big change is that Google Maps has been replaced with Apple’s own mapping software.  The feature which many Apple users love is the iPod player. The iPhone 5 divides your music and video libraries into two separate icons which allows for easier navigation. The iPhone 5 also offers Bluetooth 4.0, which uses less power and can allow for the iPhone to “talk” to small battery operated devices like fitness machines at the gym.

Conclusion

Overall the iPhone 5 is a great smartphone that offers many features including excellent picture quality, great apps, iPod music player and personal assistant Siri. Apple lovers will be very happy with this phone, but for those making the switch there may be a small learning curve.
